Open Enrollment for 2022 is Ending.
Buy Real Coverage!
Open enrollment for the individual market ends in most states on Saturday, January 15th. The purpose of today’s video is to remind everyone of that deadline.
We urge you to consider buying an Affordable Care Act (ACA) – compliant Plan if you are uninsured or on:
- a Christian Cooperative Plan
- a limited Benefit Plan
- a short-term health Plan
The Wall Street Journal has run recent articles touching on this topic such as the 12/23/21 article, Who Pays the Highest Hospital Prices, featuring individuals left with six-figure hospital bills. Not surprisingly to us, these examples describe people who did not purchase ACA-compliant plans. One woman mentioned in this front-page article was covered through Freedom Life Insurance. An online search for Freedom Life Insurance directs you to ushealthgroup.com, a United Healthcare Company, and a home page which reads:
A family of companies providing a better level of innovative health coverage for people just like you.
- We understand two fundamental truths: Every customer is unique, and a ‘one size fits all’ approach is not always the answer.
- USHEALTH Group, Inc., with our family of companies, offers a full portfolio of plans that let you tailor health coverage to YOUR specific needs.
This marketing “pitch” is terribly misleading although, to be fair, in less prominent portions of the site, there is reference to the fact these are not ACA-compliant Plans.
Another person featured in the article was “covered” through Medi-share. Their website home page, mychristiancare.org, reads:
- Medi-Share is a community of Christians who have agreed to live as the early church (Acts 2 & 4) when it comes to sharing each other’s burdens. Members share each other’s eligible medical bills and, most importantly, encourage and lift one another up in prayer.
Several of these types of Christian Cooperatives have gone bankrupt in the last several years and left members with hundreds of thousands of dollars in bills. These are NOT insurance products.
In the individual health insurance marketplace, only ACA-compliant Plans are actual insurance and only actual insurance provides true financial protection from catastrophic healthcare expenses.
Please don’t be duped by these organizations’ pitches. As the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Please take the steps necessary to protect you and your family – have ACA-compliant coverage, stay in-network whenever possible and follow your Plan’s rules.
